Houses gutted down by fire at Njalo Island on Lake Chirwa

Fire has destroyed houses at Njalo Island on Lake Chirwa in Phalombe District.

According to Village Headman Chalera who is the only chief at the island, atleast half of the houses on the island have been razed and they are trying their best to control the fire, using water from the lake.

Chairperson for Chiwalo Area Development Committee (ADC) Benson Mwamvani has also confirmed of the incident

Mwamvani said the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Police in the district are yet to comment on the incident.
