Independent Police Commission To Start Investigating Alleged Nsundwe Rape Scandal

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has said in two weeks time it will start criminal investigations on the alleged Nsundwe rape scandal.

Confirming the development, Commission Christopher Tukula said the commission is currently at planning stage of the exercise.

Some of police officers are suspected to have raped at least 17 girls and women in Msundwe, Mpingu and M’bwatalika in Lilongwe after they went to maintain peace in the areas.

In a March 2021 update, Secretary for Homeland Security Ministry Patricia Liabunya told Malawians the Commission was requested to carry out the investigation so that errant officers face the law.

Two years down the line, the nation remains in the dark on the identities of police officers implicated in the scandal.
