Man arrested for torching his wife, child in Thyolo

Police in Thyolo District are keeping in custody Ulemu Brazio on suspicion that he set alight both his wife and three-year old daughter using petrol, leading to the death of the child.

South East Region Police spokesperson, Rodrick Maida, has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Maida, the incident happened yesterday after the suspect allegedly picked a quarrel with his wife.

“Out of anger, he poured petrol on his wife and daughter then set them ablaze,” he said.

The wife and the daughter sustained severe burns injuries whilst Ulemu sustained minor ones.

The three were admitted to Thyolo District hospital where the child died.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer murder charges.
