Judiciary facing funding challenges to handle TIP cases

Chairperson for Integrity Committee of Judiciary, Justice John Chirwa has bemoaned low level funding to effectively the handle Trafficking In Persons (TIP) cases in the country.

He said this Thursday during engagement meeting with the Judiciary on countering TIP in Malawi held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe with financial support from Global Hope Mobilization (GLOHOMO).

Chirwa said Judiciary has the capacity to handle TIP cases but it was facing funding challenges where it was falling to meet their needs.

“We don’t have the right to move around with a begging bowl to donors for help. If government was responded favourably to our budget estimates TIP cases could have moved well in our cases,” he pointed out.

Executive Director for GLOHOMO, Caleb Thole said the judiciary remains key when it comes to prosecution of TIP cases in the country.
