All set For 2021 International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Minister of Gender and Social welfare, Patricia Kaliati has said her Ministry is set for this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration which will take place at Magomero primary school ground in Mangochi district on 3rd December 2021 under the theme ” Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities toward an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post Covid -19 world”.

Speaking during a press briefing held at Central Office of Information ( COI) which was organized by Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Education, and Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) on Wednesday, Kaliati emphasised that the International day of persons with disabilities commemoration will help to raise awareness and mobilize support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the society and development.

“People with disabilities face alot of challenges in the society hence it is Important to commemorate this day since it will help to prohibits discrimination of any kind on the basis of persons with disabilities, ” said Kaliati.

Kaliati added that the commemoration will also help to raise awareness on education so that parents with children with disabilities should send their Children to school.

In his remarks, Senior Inclusive Education officer, under the Ministry Of Education, Hastings Magombo said education is key that can change the world and that there is a need that children with disabilities have access to education as any other Malawian citizen and no child should left behind.
