Sheriffs pounce on Mulanje District Council, Confiscates 10 Computers

Operations at Mulanje District Council accounts department have been brought to a standstill after sheriffs confiscated all computers there over government’s delay to pay a contractor Payamaya building contractor who rehabilitated a house and office of Senior Chief Chikumbu.

The project cost was K16m but according to District Commissioner for Mulanje Stallichi Mwambiwa plus the sherrifs’ pay it has come up to K23m.

Mwambiwa told the press this morning that the sheriffs have confiscated nine desktop computers, four printers and one photocopying machine.

He said the council is a victim of circumstances because it signed for the project which belongs to Ministry of Local Government and Rural and not the council.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Anjoya Mwanza says she will comment on the matter later.
