Angry Mob Kills Man On Suspicion That He Stole Cattle

An angry mob in Salima district has killed a 25-year old man identified as Umali Lubeni on the night of December 22, 2021 at Ngodzi Trading Centre, whom they suspected to have stolen cattle.

Salima Police PRO, Jacob Khembo disclosed that the deceased, along with three other suspected rustlers, went to steal cattle from the kraal of Bob Umali and their movements awakened the owner who later became suspicious and decided to follow the criminals.

At a distance, he shouted for help and this awoke some villagers and they started chasing after the thieves.

As fate would have it, Umali fell into the drain around Ngodzi Primary School and was immediately caught and the irate mob assaulted him to death.

The matter was reported to Chipoka Police Post who visited the scene and took the dead body to Chipoka Health Centre where postmortem revealed that death was as a result of severe head injuries.

Meanwhile, police in the district are severely warning the public against executing mob justice as it compromises thorough investigations.

Umali Lubeni hails, from Khwidzi village in Traditional Authority Ndindi in the district.
