Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Blantyre City South East Member of Parliament (MP) Sameer Suleman has asked former President Peter Mutharika to emulate former Zambia President Edgar Lungu and retire from frontline politics.
Suleman said this when responding to an order by Mutharika stopping some of the top officials in the party from using the portrait of former President Bingu wa Mutharika.
“This has nothing to do with Bingu’s picture, but to do with Nankhumwa’s camp. They [the party leadership] are preaching unity and peace, but not in good faith. We are sure that if the said poster was released by [former Reserve Bank of Malawi governor] Dalitso Kabambe, APM would have been happy,” said Suleman.
Suleman then asked the party to call for an early convention to rectify some of the leadership squabbles rocking the party.
But reacting to the claims DPP Spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba asked Suleman and others who are behind Nankhumwa that will be dealt with.
“If people don’t want to follow proper counsel from the party president and think they can be clever, let them get out of the party. They can form their own party,” he said.
