Chakwera Releases Initial Cabinet

Almost 78 hours after President Lazars Chakwera dissolved his cabinet, he has released an initial Cabinet missing his deadline of 48 hours with 4 hours.

In the initial released Cabinet, Chakwera has largely maintained his previous Cabinet and made a few notable changes with new faces.

The Cabinet which has 12 members, has 35 percent women, as there are 7 men and 5 women.

This contrary to what gender activists were expecting from the Malawi leader as they were pushing for a 50 percent representation of women in the new Cabinet.

3. Patricia Annie Kaliati, Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare.

5. Agnes Nyalonje, Minister of Education.
6. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, M.P., Minister of Health.
7. Jacob Hara, M.P., Minister of Transport and Public Works.
8. Prof. Blessings Darlo Chinsinga, Minister of Local Government.
9. Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Labour.
10. Abida Sidik Mia, M.P., Minister of Water and Sanitation.
11. Mark Katsonga Phiri, M.P., Minister of Trade and Industry.
