Immigration yet to identify new supplier of passports following termination of contract with previous supplier

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has not yet identified a company to supply electronic passports, following the termination of contract with the previous supplier.

Techno Brain Global was awarded a 60.8 million dollar contract by the Malawi government in 2019 to supply of 800 thousand electronic passports.

The controversial the contract between the two parties was terminated in December last year following allegations of corruption.

Currently, the department is only able to print a few passports due to lack of necessary resources.

Spokesperson for the Department Wellington Chiponde, has said that they are still in the process of identifying a new contractor.
