Murder Suspect Pika Manondo’s forfeiture case adjourned to March 2nd

The High Court sitting in Lilongwe has adjourned the forfeiture case involving murder convict Pika Manondo to March 2 this year.

In this case, the State, through Attorney General (AG) Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, wants to forfeit US$187,400 (approximately K186 million) from Manondo.

The money is suspected to be proceeds of Cashgate and is being kept in a safe deposit box at First Merchant Bank.

Malawi Police Service agents found the money in 2013, three days after former national budget director Paul Mphwiyo was shot at in Lilongwe.

According to Presiding Judge William Msiska, the case has been adjourned to allow Manondo to thoroughly go through some documents so that he can ably defend himself in the case.

However, Msiska turned down Manondo’s plea to have disclosures of some documents that are pertinent to the case.
