A Woman missing in Mulanje after being swept by flooding water

A woman in her 20’s is missing in Mulanje after being swept away in the raging waters of a flooded river Wednesday night.

Mulanje Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira has confirmed the development to FaceofMalawi while identifying the victim as Rejoice Gama from Nkhuku Village, in Senior Chief Chikumbu’s area.

According to Ngwira, a man named George Kamwana went to Chitakale Trading Centre with his friend George Mwale to collect some medicine.

The two reportedly went to have alcoholic beverages at a certain place where they found Gama and imbibed until midnight before starting off to Blantyre with the woman.

Upon reaching Chikuli Bridge on the Nkando—Limbe Road, they were overwhelmed by floods. The three came out of the car and attempted to cross the river, with the men making it to the other side while Gama failed.

“The vehicle was also washed away before it was brought out after the water levels subsided,” Ngwira said.

Currently, the search for Gama is underway
