Nigerian Man jailed for blasphemy

Mubarak Bala, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for making blasphemous posts against Islam in the West African Nation’s northern region.

Bala who is a former Muslim and president of Humanist Association of Nigeria and activists, was sentenced yesterday April 5, 2022 after spending close to 2 years in prison and pleading guilty of blasphemy.

According to court documents, he was accused of making facebook posts of insulting Prophet Muhammad and the whole of Islamic religion, this would cause confusion in public peace.

“He thinks the judge has settle the dispute by mutual concern and that he would end it,” Bala’s lawyer James Ibori said.

“He should not have been charged under Kano state law because he was not in Kano when the offence was allegedly committed” continued Ibori

Kano state government rejected the accusation that Bala was denied access to health care and was forced to worship the Islamic
