A 78-year-old woman of Kitwe has allegedly been raped by a 44-year old man identified as Richard Tembo.
The incident happened on Monday around 19:00 hours in Mulenga Township in Kitwe after the victim came back from drinking.
Victim’s granddaughter narrated to police officers that while her grandmother was sleeping in her bedroom, Tembo of Ndeke Township allegedly forced himself on her and had canal knowledge of her without her concert.
And Copperbelt province acting police commanding officer Tresphord Kasale confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said the victim was rescued by her 19 year old granddaughter who shouted for help.
He said the granddaughter found the alleged rapist in the act and called for help from neighbours who assited to arrest and take him to Mulenga police post.
He said the victim sustained painful right hip, painful vagina and general body pains.
Mr Kasale said a medical report form was issued and the victim escorted to Kitwe Teaching Hospital hospital for expert medical examination.
“Brief facts are that around 16:00 hours, the victim left home to drink beer at Mangena bar at Mulenga market and went back home around 19:00 hours. She only woke up discovering someone having canal knowledge of her around 20:00hrs,” he said.
Mr Kasale said a docket has since been opened.
He said Mr Tembo is in police custody.
