Veteran Zambia politician and former Minister of Finance Alexander Chikwanda in the Patriotic Front (PF) has died aged 83, after an illness.
The funeral programme and burial announcements will be made later.
Mr Chikwanda, an economist by profession was born on December 24, 1938.
In 1973, he became Member of Parliament (MP) for Kalulushi constituency under the United National Independence Party (UNIP) on the Copperbelt.
Zambia’s founding Father, Kenneth Kaunda nominated Mr Chikwanda as MP in 1978.
Mr Chikwanda bounced back to politics in 2011 after which late President Michael Sata appointed him Minister of Finance, the position he held until 2015.
May his soul rest in eternal.
