A woman from Migowi in Phalombe district who was pronounced died on Tuesday 3 May, 2022 by the professional doctors came back to life after her son convinced the titled chiefs that his mother is not died.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Agnes (not exact name) was said to have been sick for unknown disease and was taken to Phalombe District Hospital for medical assistance but health practitioners pronounced her dead upon arrival.

“The relatives did not have enough money to keep the body at the mortuary instead they took the body to their home village in Migowi to prepare it for burial”, the report said

During the morning hours of the burial day, the child to the deceased told the elders at the ceremony that the mother is not died but she has just stopped breathing.

“My mom is not dead, that woman (not disclosed) is the one who has my mother’s heart, tell her to put it back”, explained the child

Mr Anusa , one of the elders at the ceremony said at first the elders were taking it for granted but after the child convinced them that what he was saying was the pure truth, they then matched to the mentioned woman, took her to a safe place where they forced her to say what she has done to the deceased body and she openly admitted  keeping the woman’s heart with her.

“We had to force her to put back the heart as the child was adamant on bringing back the mother” said the elder

After the woman accepted what she has done, the elders left her with the body alone saying if she wants to be alive she must put back what she has taken from the deceased.

“After we left her alone for some minutes with the body we just saw the dead woman coming out of the room, walking and talking without any sign of illness in her”, she explained

Another eye witness, Zainabu said what she has seen this week is an abomination and she has never heard before in her life time that human beings could do something like that.

“I am very surprised and at the same time shocked to witness this act of witchcraft, yes this is witchcraft of the highest level ever, people in the country deny that there is witchcraft but today I am saying witchcraft is real in Malawi whether one like it or not”, Zainabu commented

The constitution does not approve any accusation of witchcraft practices for a long time now but people in the villages do believe in the existence of the practices in the country.
