CHRR Donates To Flood Victims In Chikwawa

Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) has donated food items to People who are camping at Fombe ADMARC at Chief Kasisi area in Chikwawa district to use as they will be going home.

Speaking after the donation Benson Somba, Chairperson for CHRR said the relief items were for the widows, elderly and child headed families.

“We have been funded by the Canada based organization called Stephen Foundation, they provided us with 3 million kwacha which we have used to buy the bags of flour, blankets, sugar, Salt and packets of Soya pieces”, said Somba

Somba asked the beneficiaries and the community members not to abuse each other because of the relief items provided.

“As we all know that Chikwawa is a disaster prone area and CHRR organization was into a serious talk with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, chiefs and community members for efforts to reduce the persistent disasters in this area”, explained Somba

According to Samson Beyard, Area Civil Protection Committee Chairperson for Kasisi thanked the organization for the support they have given to the victims because it will act as the starting point when they go back to their respective homes.

“We are very thanked for the support that you have provided us with, we do not have much words but only God can bless your good will and the charitable work that the organization has done today, may you continue with the work that you have shown us this day”, said Beyard

Commenting on the support, Group Village Headman Kamthema asked for the type of support that would sustain the communities as a pass on program.

“We have a smiling face today because of the support that you have given us and we say thank you, but we would also have loved if you could help us with the kind of support that would sustain the communities for example livestock”, said Headman Kamthema

Numerous organisations and companies have come together to help the flood and dry spell victims in the country with assorted food items and non-food stuffs in various districts.
