Chilima refuses to comment on Zuneth Satter’s report implicating him in corruption scandal

State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has refused to comment on corruption scandal involving well-known businessman Zuneth Satter.

Chilima, immediate -past ACB Director General (serving PS for Lands), Reyneck Matemba, police chief George Kainja, police lawyer, Mwambi Kaluba and government procurement chairperson, John Suzi Banda, have been named in court affidavits in the Zuneth Sattar case as suspected beneficiaries of fraud, corruption and bribery.

The affidavit in a London court , made the revelations based on what it called evidence collected to demonstrate Sattar’s influence and corruption of a number of senior public figures in Malawi. President Lazarus Chakwera is not named in the affidavits but his Chief of Staff, Prince Harvey Kapondamgaga.

The affidavit also provides insight into alleged corruption behind three multi-billion contracts signed with the Malawi government under both the Peter Mutharika and Lazarus Chakwera administrations between 2019 and 2021.

But when reporters approached Chilima to comment on the matter after engaging the Mmbelwa district council on reforms he refused to comment on the matter.

Chilima said he will let the processes on the issue run.

” I cannot comment on the matter. Let processes be the way they should,” said Chilima.

Meanwhile, the Youth and Society (YAS) of Charles Kajoloweka is calling for the resignation of all government officials implicated in the case.
