Chikopa for Joint Forces During Economic Crisis

Reverend Innocent Chikopa, Vice Board Chairperson of Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN) has said there is need for different stakeholders to join forces in providing the checks and balances on the utilization of public resources during the economic crisis in the country.

He made the remarks on 7 July 2022 during policy and budget training of faith leaders in Lilongwe.

He added that the economic challenges that the country is facing is in line with the 25 percent devaluation of kwacha.

“The additional 25 percent devaluation of kwacha has the potential of pushing people into great poverty in the country,” Chikopa explained.

He said there is need to implement social protection programs during this time of economic crisis which has caused tensions for everyone in the country.

According to Reverend Brian Kamwendo, Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs said government appreciates the great role that faith leaders’ play in the nation as such their ideas are mostly acknowledged.

“I would like to appreciate your effort in helping the nation to run and as such government is doing everything possible to ensure social protection programs are intensified,” Kamwendo said.

Faith leaders in the country help in making decisions for the country to run both economically and spiritually.
