Deputy National Police spokesperson Harry Namwaza has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Namwaza, the fire that burnt the house which late Nkhata was sleeping in was caused by an illegal electricity connection tapped from a neighbouring house.

Namwaza said police will be sharing the findings of the report with the Nkhatas Family as well as government.

During the burial ceremony, one of the family representatives Uchizi Nkhata said Martse went to Monkey Bay in Mangochi on vacation.

“During the night of May 21, Martse woke up and went to the living room to charge a phone.

“Fire then broke out in the house and Martse together with other people managed to get out of the house,” said Uchizi.
