CDEDi to hold anti-Chakwera demonstrations

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) is threatening to hold demonstrations if President Lazarus Chakwera will not trim Presidential powers.

Addressing the Press in Lilongwe, Sylvester Namiwa CDEDI’s Executive Director said Malawians expected Chakwerato seize the opportunity of the Africa Day Against Corruption open day activities held in Dedza, to declare total war on corruption by announcing that he has moved the system to amend Section 91 of the Constitution, which shields First citizens from criminal prosecution while in office.

“By scrapping off presidential immunity, Chakwera would not only have delivered on one of his flagship campaign promises, rather he would have also made a bold statement that he was not entangled in any corruption scandals that have rocked the country in the two years of his leadership, “said Namiwa.

Earlier this month, Chakwera through his press officer Anthony Kasunda said trimming Presidential powers at the moment is not his priority.

He said his priority is now repealing bad laws in the country.
