Comedian Felistus Nya-uyu Ngwira hits back at critics

Well-known comedian Felistus Nya-uyu Ngwira has come out of her cocoon to blasts some Malawians who are demanding evidence on her claims that she was offered K10 million by one of the country’s big boy in an exchange for sex.

On Monday, Nya-uyu Ngwira ignited debate on social media when she revealed that someone offered her MK10 million as a sponsorship her ‘Vilekeke Night of Laughter event which she organized earlier this month in exchange for sex.

“I remember someone told me “I can give you 10 million just now all you have to do is come to my room uzanidikulire. I looked at this man and said “So the idea doesn’t matter all you want is to enter the holy of holies of Vilekeke Kingdom? And he said yes with no shame at all eee kweni doda lila mwabanthu,” she wrote.

Her claims attracted mixed reactions with many demanding evidence on the matter.

But Nya-uyu Ngwira has blasted the said people.

“In a world with so many injustices towards women, it is beyond sadness to note that when women try to raise their voice about these injustices faced, we are asked “What was she wearing?”, “There is no way that really happened”, “Where is the evidence” etc.

“As a female creative, we all aware that we have to surely work 4-5 times harder than the male creative for the same goals for success. We often forget that there are individuals behind these creative brands that serve the gatekeeper’s job for the next generation of female creatives. Our actions today in time of temptation is a precedent for the next generation,” wrote Nya-uyu Ngwira.

She added: “Its either our success will be attributed to a man, or our failure will be blamed on us not wanting to be exploited by men.

“We want to feel safe, we want to believe there is a chance of sanity in people we want to collaborate with. Alas, we have a long way to go. But, we wont stop trying out and fighting for our dreams. We wont stop at anything that tries to degrade our dignity as a strong black woman.”
