Police at Liwonde in Machinga are keeping in custody Mike Chagwa Phiri, 34, and Makwanda Jamesome, 52, for illegal possession of ivory.
Liwonde Police spokesperson, Ngwashape Msume sayid they got a tip that some people were selling ivory in the area.
According to Msume Police officers and park officials went to the scene at Namikango Village in Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi district where they managed to arrest the suspects and recovered the ivory.
The duo are expected to appear before the court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of listed species and dealing in government trophies -Ivory contrary to sections 86 and 91 of National Parks and Wildlife Act respectively.
Chagwa Phiri comes from Kapoloma Village, Traditional Authority Kapoloma in Machinga District while Makwanda Jameson comes from Chisawa village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi District
