United Transformation Movement (UTM) has trashed rumours hovering on social media that the Party President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also State Vice President is behind spate of demonstrations that are happening in the country due to high cost of living, impunity, corruption among others.
Speaking during a rally in Ntcheu West on Saturday UTM Secretary General Patricia Kaliati described the claims as baseless.
Kaliati accused the people behind the false claims as ill-minded who want Chilima and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to part ways.
“It is baseless to invite the Rt Honourable Dr Saulosi Chilima name into the mud that he is behind the demonstration happening in this country.
“Chilima is a smart man and can’t go so low to do that. Your intentions are that he must go into conflict with Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.” said Kaliati who is also Minister of Gender and Social Welfare.
Kaliati went further by claiming that when Chilima was in Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) he was regarded as a traitor and he decided to dish the party but the infighting is still going on.
