Dausi, Mwanamvekha in court over Malawi Prison Uniform Scandal

Former Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha, former Homeland Security Minister, Nicholas Dausi, former Principal Secretary for Homeland Security, Samuel Madula, Chief Director in the Ministry of Homeland Security Kennedy Nkhoma and Patricia Liabuba are appearing before Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza in Lilongwe.

The five will answer charges of abuse of office in the unlawful procurement of an exorbitant and unbudgeted for procurement contract between Government and One Guard FZE for the supply of Uniforms and Equipment for Malawi Prison Services.

The state has since applied to the court that the cases for the five who were arrested on separate instances be consolidated.

The state said it applied for consent from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on August 17 and it is yet to get.

The state has since asked that the case be adjourned awaiting the consent.
