Councillor Michael Sauka Junior accused of stealing 59 iron sheets released on bail

A ward Councilor for Rivirivi in Balaka, Michael Sauka Junior, and a security guard, Raphael Chauma, have been released on bail on a charge of stealing by a public servant.

Sauka and Chauma were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing 59 iron sheets worth K1.3 million meant for a refurbishment of a newly constructed district commissioner’s house.

Sauka Junior who is Balaka district council’s immediate past chairperson and the security officer have pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The two have paid a surety of K100 thousand each.
