Bushiri reacts to Pretoria Magistrate Court warning to struck out his case

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church has said he is keenly following events surrounding his money laundering case in South Africa.

Bushiri’s remarks follows a warning by Pretoria Magistrate Court given to South African State to finalize its investigations in a case in which Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is accused of R102 million fraud or risk the case being struck out.

The court has given January 2023 as the dateline.

This follows a plea by the state for another postponement when the court met yesterday in South Africa.

Bushiri’s co-accused, Willah Mudolo, his wife, Zethu, Landiwe Ntlokwana, Nomalarvasagie Reddy and Sateesh Isseri were present in court yesterday.

Reacting to the court order Bushiri through his spokesperson Ephraim Nyondo said the prophet is keenly following the case.

“Just got the news that Pretoria Magistrate Court on Tuesday warned the State that it will drop all charges against Prophet Shepherd Bushiri if, by January, they don’t finalise their investigations.

“I am told the Court came at such a position, on Tuesday, after being infuriated by the State’s yet again prayer to postpone the matter arguing, once again, ‘we are still investigating,” wrote Nyondo.

He added: “For starters, the Prophet, the Prophetess and four others were arrested in 2020 on alleged fraud charges and, by then, the State told the Court that they had been investigating the case from 2018 and they had overwhelming evidence. Overwhelming evidence.

“Four years later, they are still investigating and the Courts, as it is, are tired of these games.

“Well, we are watching with keen interest.”

Bushiri and his wife Mary are now answering extradition case after the two fled South Africa to Malawi in 2020.
