Malawian man kills self after losing his friend’s bicycle

Police in Mchinji have confirmed the death of a 22 year old man who killed himself by drinking poison after misplacing a bicycle belonging to his friend.
According to Mchinji police Station Officer, Charles Mpezeni, the incident happened at Chinula Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Nyoka.
According to Mpezeni, on November 8, 2022 the deceased Gift Chisale borrowed a bicycle from his friend and promised to return it the same day but he never did.
When the friend followed up to collect the bicycle, he was told it had been forgotten at Kaluza Village due to drunkenness.
The deceased and his friend agreed to go and enquire at the village and on their way there, the deceased went to buy a drink at a shop.
On his way back, he started complaining of abdominal pains and revealed to his friend that he had taken actellic pesticides
He was taken to Ludzi Mission Hospital where he died while receiving treatment and postmortem revealed that the cause of death was due to organ phosphate poisoning.
