SA gay man raped by his neighbor

A 48-year-old man was allegedly raped by his neighbour, who told him afterwards that he should be grateful for the attention.

The man told Us that he had drinks with the neighbour at a local shebeen in Ikageng in Mamelodi on Sunday 23 October.

Afterwards, the two went back to the neighbour’s home in Ikageng in Mamelodi, where he made violent sexual advances towards the man.

“When I moved my mouth away, he started hurling homophobic insults at me. He told me since I was gay and looking for men, I should be grateful that I have his attention,” he said.

He said his neighbour then beat him until he lost consciousness.

“I suspect he did as he pleased with me because I was unconscious for many hours before he woke me up and asked for my sister’s number. I could hardly breath, I couldn’t even walk,” he said.

He said his sister and a friend took him from the man’s house.

“He told them I was mugged on the streets and ran to his house. As soon as I gained consciousness I told them what happened and he was arrested,” he said.

He said the man is a danger to gay people and he should not be granted any bail.

“If only he had asked to sleep with me and not attacked me, we would have made this our secret, but he had a motive to attack me because I’m gay, Im waiting for medical reports and once it is confirmed that he raped me, I’ll press more charges,” he said.

Mamelodi East Police spokesperson, Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said a 47-year-old man was arrested on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Mashiloane said the suspect appeared in court last Friday and will appear again on Friday 11 November for a bail hearing.
