Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Culture Dr. Michael Usi said there is a need to apply Rules and Regulations that will help in preserving the country’s mountains and its resources.
Usi said this during the commemoration of Mountain Day at Parachute Battalion of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in Salima, on December 11, 2022.
According to Usi, mountains are not to be undervalued as they cover 25% of the country’s land surface and they contribute to the country’s economy through its tourist attraction.
In his remarks, director of land resources McPherson Nthala revealed that the country is going to launch the restoration of mountain ecosystems initiative on Tuesday next week under the national advocacy and awareness of mountains conference to be held in Lilongwe.
This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Women move mountains”
