KARONGA COMMUNITIES BENEFIT FROM DODMA

Households from Traditional Authority (T/A) Kiluppula in Karonga have praised government through Department of Management Affairs (DODMA) for providing them with relief maize.

Four hundred and fifteen households of Mwaingemo and Gwereweta have benefited from DODMA since their food and houses were destroyed by stormy rains about two weeks ago.

One of the beneficiaries, Annie Mbiga of Mwaingemo village said people were starving and they were living in school blocks.

“We really appreciate for the good work that government trough DODMA did by assisting us with roofing materials for our houses and provided us with maize for food,” said Mbiga.

Relief and Rehabilitation Officer for Karonga District Council, Shepherd Jere has ensured that his office will make everything possible to help all affected communities through different interventions.

Chief Social Welfare Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development, Anastazio Matewere said about 30,000 households in Mzuzu have been marked to benefit from relief food items through the 2022/23 National Lean Season Response Plan.

The National Lean Season Response Plan will run from January to March 2023.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Mzuzu City Council, Monica Malota said the lean season response plan targets ultra-poor households that are in dire need of food assistance.
