Professional Drivers Union pushing for release of Kunje’s driver

Professional Drivers Union of Malawi has said it is still discussing the next course of action following President Lazarus Chakwera’s failure to pardon Jonas Tewesa, driver of former MEC Commissioner, Linda Kunje.

Secretary General for the Union, Mphatso Mollen has disclosed.

He could not indicate what they intend to do but previously threatened unspecified action if their request to have Tewesa pardoned was not met in 14 days.

Tewesa and Kunje were handed 18-month and 15-month prison sentences respectively for criminal negligence after refusing to give way to a presidential convoy in 2020.

However, President Chakwera released Kunje from prison during the festive season following a presidential pardon.
