Two robbers armed with panga knives assaulted a motorcyclist aged 49 on December 31, 2022 in Mponela, Dowa District and also robbed the victim’s San LG motorcycle.
Mponela Police spokesperson, Macpaston Msadala identified the deceased as Biston Chimungu and he met his fate on the New Year’s Eve.
According to Msadala, at that time the motorcyclist had gone to Madisi trading center for shopping.
“At around 19:00 hours his wife called to check on him and he stated he was on his way back from Madisi Trading Centre.
“As he approached Kamanya village, he was attacked and assaulted by two unknown criminals who were armed with panga knives and fled with the motorcycle,” Msadala says.
Msadala said the victim managed to move and inform some villagers where they took him to Madisi mission hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they have launched a manhunt for the two suspects.
Chimungu hailed from Kamanya village, Traditional Authority Chakhaza in the district.
