A 57-year-old well-known business tycoon in Mangochi District identified as Farouk Jussab Maluk has shot himself to death with his licensed shotgun after being diagnosed with a disease that affected his ability to walk.

Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi said the incident occurred on January 7, 2023 at Ndata location in the area of Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.

Daudi said Maluk who owned Tools and Components Glass Shop within the township was last year advised by doctors to go through an operation procedure to which he refused.

She added that Maluk on January 5, 2023 visited Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre for further medical treatment where the doctors also recommended that he go through an operation to amputate the both legs.

“He returned home hopelessly and informed his nephew that he was tired of taking drugs. Two days later, he locked himself in the room and shot himself on the chest with the shotgun,” said Daudi.

The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station who rushed to the scene and found him in a pool of blood and the said gun was beside him. His dead body was taken to Mangochi District Hospital where loss of blood has been indicated as the cause of death.

He hailed from Mona Village, Traditional Authority Tengani in Nsanje.
