Two people arrested for decorating a cake with money amounting to MK35,000

Police in Blantyre are keeping in custody two cake bakers identified as Tumpale Ghambi, 24 and Sibongire Kaira, 25 on allegation that they damaged Malawian currency.

It is reported that, the duo who are into cake baking business in Kanjedza on January 7, 2023 coated their cakes using Five hundred kwacha notes worthy K35,000 as decoration and posted on Facebook as a way of advertising their business.

Reserve bank of Malawi officials reported the matter to Blantyre Police Station after noticing the advert on social media and police launched manhunt for the two.

The suspects have been charged accordingly and will appear before court when investigations are completed.

Ghambi comes from Mwenilondo Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga District while Kaira is from Wenya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwenewenye in Chitipa District.

  1. It’s really amazing. They used so much money to decorate a cake. But I still don’t see the real reason for the arrest. Was the money used stolen? If not, why were they arrested? I, for example, play a lot of gambling at the casinos on Gambling ORB , and I wouldn’t agree to be arrested for spending my own money in any way.
