African Parks calls on Malawi govt to implement family planning for lions at Majete Wildlife Reserve

African Parks Organization has urged the Malawi government to implement family planning methods for the lions residing at Majete Wildlife Reserve in Chikwawa.

The population of lions at the reserve is causing concern as it is causing fear for those living in the surrounding area and impacting the other animals in the reserve.

According to Samuel Kamoto, Country Director for African Parks, the reserve is currently hosting over 50 lions, a worrying development that could lead to a population explosion.

Kamoto suggests that an alternative solution could be to transfer some of the lions to other reserves, as long as there are measures in place to prevent them from going rogue.

However, Brighton Kumchedwa, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, believes that the immediate solution is to transfer the lions to other wildlife reserves.

African Parks works in partnership with the Malawi government through the department of National Parks and Wildlife, and operates in various countries across Africa.
