A man has died in a road accident that occurred in Mponela, Dowa district.
The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Shadreck Mpata.
According to Macpatson Msadala, Mponela police public relations officer, the incident took place on January 16, 2023 at around 14:30 hours near Chikho Hotel along the Lilongwe-Kasungu M1 road.
The accident involved a Toyota Rush saloon with registration number NE 6743, which was being driven by 37-year-old Everton Lameck from Khuyu village in the area of Traditional Authority Kumpha in Likoma District.
The vehicle had two passengers on board. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and swerved to the extreme offside, causing the vehicle to fall into a drainage.
The police in Mponela are reminding all road users to follow all rules and regulations to avoid such accidents.
The deceased, Shadreck Mpata, hailed from Khale village, Traditional Authority M’bwana in Nkhatabay district.
