Winiko to hold ‘Payele Payele’ demonstrations on January 27

A grouping under the banner, Concerned Citizens led by political rights activist, Bon Kalindo has written the Mulanje District Commissioner and Police notifying them of their intention to hold mass protests dubbed ‘Payere Payere’ on January 27 in the district.

Among others, the grouping is pushing for the stepping down of President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice, Dr. Saulos Chilima for their alleged failure to manage state affairs, address high cost of living and seriously fight corruption in the country.

At a recent media briefing in Blantyre, Kalindo said they had given the two ten days to resign or face these demonstrations. Kalindo also cited the mess and scandals rocking the Affordable Inputs Programme.

“It does us no harm to repeat to you sir that holding peaceful demonstrations is a constitutional right, and that right must be seen to be given wholesomely and never in part.

“We inform you to prepare for any logistical arrangements that might be deemed fit for these Payere Payere demonstrations,” reads part of the notice we have seen dated 17th January 2023.

The grouping has since called on political and religious groups to endorse the demos describing them as a better way of claiming back a better Malawi.
