Man dies in Kasungu road accident

A 22-year-old pedal cyclist identified as Lywell Mvula from Kazindonde Village, Traditional Authority Kaluluma in Kasungu has died after being hit by a motor vehicle at Kachinda Junction along Kasungu – Mzuzu road.

The accident which involved a Toyota Hilux registration BR118 double cabin was being driven by Macute Banda from the direction of Kasungu heading towards Mzuzu.

Upon arrival at Kachinda junction due to overspeeding Banda lost control of the motor vehicle and hit Mvula who was cycling joining the main road from the near side junction.

Following the impact, Mvula sustained severe head injuries and a fracture on his left leg and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nkhamenya Community Hospital.

Police are therefore advising road users to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid such preventable road accidents.
