Chizuma Remains In Office As High Court Dismisses State’s Application To Suspend MLS Injunction

In a landmark ruling, the High Court Judge Mike Tembo has dismissed the State’s application to suspend the injunction granted to the Malawi Law Society (MLS).

The application was made by the Attorney General through hired lawyers, who sought to remove the interdiction of ACB Boss Martha Chizuma.

The State argued that the MLS lacked sufficient interest in the case and asked for a stay of the ruling that lifted Chizuma’s interdiction.

However, in a decisive judgment, Justice Tembo rejected these arguments, stating that the MLS has the right to obtain the injunction.

The ruling reads, “This Court finds that the present Application by the defendants lacks merit and it is declined accordingly.” This means that Chizuma remains in her position as ACB Boss, as it stands.

Patrick Mpaka, the President of MLS, expressed his disappointment with the State’s actions, stating that they went behind the MLS’s back in their application.

He also emphasized that the MLS will continue to defend the rule of law and ensure that justice is served.
