Chakwera assures food assistance to Cyclone Freddy Victims in lower Shire

Date:

Survivors of Cyclone Freddy have been assured of food supply in camps were they are seeking refuge.

The assurance was made by President Lazarus Chakwera, Thursday, 23, March, 2023, at Bangula Evacuation camp when he visited them to appreciate how survivors are living in camps.

President Chakwera said response was slow despite the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) prepared well by keeping maize at the Bangula Humanitarian Staging Area due to impassable of M1 road after some sections of the road washed away by Cyclone Freddy.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Chimombo of Nsanje has asked the government to transport more maize in Admarc deports saying the twin districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa has been hit hard with hunger.
