Lilongwe Police Station has impounded 46 vehicles for various traffic offences such as Failure to register as passenger service vehicle operator (PSV), operating without road service permit, and operating without professional driver’s Permit.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu the enforcement which started mid March, has seen 126 vehicles with black number plates impounded so far.

“Of late, motorists with black number plates have been flooding the roads without registering as PSV operator (red number plates).

“The exercise, which has targeted all major roads within Lilongwe City, is aimed at bringing sanity in as far as Passenger Service Vehicle operation is concerned, according to Section 81 of Road Traffic Act,”Chigalu explained.

The station is advising owners of black number plate vehicles to first register for PSV with the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) before engaging in carrying passengers for business.
