USAID pumps 2.1 billion kwacha to boost cholera response in Malawi

United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has injected approximately k2.1 billion and committed an additional k415 million for UNICEF to scale up efforts against Cholera outbreak.

This comes as Government in conjunction with none state actors are working around the clock to help in responding to the ongoing cholera outbreak.

In a wake of the cyclone Freddy the grant is said to assist UNICEF to reach out to 300 thousand people and 127 thousand children by providing lifesaving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in schools and in surrounding communities.

USAID acting Mission Director Anna Toness has said thathe new funding which is direct response to President Lazarus Chakwera’s disaster declaration and the Tithetse Cholera campaign, speak volumes on good relationship which is there between Malawi and them.

Meanwhile Dr Gianfranco Rotigliano UNICEF Malawi Representative hailed USAID’s gesture saying it will assist in increasing access to clean water and good hygiene.
