Man arrested for scalding his son with hot porridge in Zomba

Police in Zomba are keeping in custody a 48- year-old man, Peter Gaesi, for scalding his 14-year-old-son with porridge after they picked a quarrel over food last night.

According to Zomba Police Station deputy public relations officer Aaron Chilala, the suspect has four children and the victim is the third born.

Chilala explained that the victim returned home yesterday evening after knocking off from school where he found that his father had prepared nsima with catfish (mpamba).

“The victim did not eat the nsima as he claimed he has problems with ‘mlamba’ therefore, he decided to prepare porridge for himself,” he said.

Chilala said when the father returned home and found his son preparing porridge, he got furious and took off the pot from the fire and poured the hot porridge onto the son.

“The victim sustained burns on the left arm and has been referred to Zomba Central Hospital for treatment,” said Chilala.

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer a charge of acts intended to cause grievous harm.

The suspect comes from Mpakati Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba.
