Lack of funding retards completion of cancer center project

Date:

The ministry of health has attributed inadequate funding as a contributing factor hindering the timely completion of the Cancer Center Project.

The project received an allocation of eight hundred million kwacha in the 2023/2024 National budget, falling short of requested seven billion kwacha.

Samson Ndolo, the Secretary for the ministry of health stated that the project’s original completion target in March has been extended to October due to inadequate funds.

Ndolo said the actual completion date is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.

Commenting in the matter Sanderson Kuyele, Head of infrastructure for the ministry of health underscored the need to adhere to the revised timeline saying the equipment required for the facility can only be installed once the bunkers have been completed.

Meanwhile, Mathews Ngwale, chairperson of the parliamentary committee on health said the committee is committed to see the completion of the center.
