Teacher Arrested For Swindling Students Examination Fees In Mangochi

Masuku Police Unit in Mangochi district has apprehended a teacher at Mkumba Community Day Secondary School for allegedly misappropriating K850,000 meant for 20 JCE and 20 MSCE candidates.

The suspect, identified as Michael Nkhata, 39, from Zakeyu Village in Mzimba District, admitted during police interrogation to diverting the funds for personal use.

According to Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, the spokesperson for Mangochi Police station, Nkhata was assigned to facilitate the payment of examination fees through the E-payment system but failed to do so.

The fraudulent activity was uncovered when the headteacher noticed the absence of 20 candidates on verification documents from Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB).

The matter was promptly reported to Masuku Police Unit, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
