Nkhata-Bay Court Convicts Husband for Injuring Wife, Imposes Seven-Year Sentence

In Nkhata-Bay, Ambokile Mwakalanga, a 24-year-old man from Mwakalenga Village in Karonga district, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labor by the Senior Resident Magistrate court.

Mwakalanga was convicted for injuring his wife, Aines Msachi, by cutting her wrist.

State prosecutor Sub Inspector Andrew Singini told the court that the incident occurred when Msachi found Mwakalanga severely beating their child, and when she tried to intervene, he turned his aggression towards her.

Despite denying the charge, Mwakalanga was convicted based on the testimonies of three witnesses.

Mwakalanga hails from Mwakalenga Village in Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
