UNHCR Needs to Work With Malawi Govt in Relocation And Repatriation Of Refugees Exercise

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has suggested the establishment of a task force in collaboration with the government to facilitate the relocation and repatriation of refugees within the country.

This proposal comes as the Malawi government has stepped up efforts to relocate refugees and asylum seekers currently residing in various localities.

Valentin Tapsoba the Director of the UNHCR Regional Bureau for Southern Africa, expressed the commission’s readiness to assist refugees who voluntarily wish to return to their home countries, provided that the government issues valid documents. Tapsoba added that the commission will launch a fundraising campaign to support the Malawi government in constructing a new camp in Chitipa.

Meanwhile, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, the Minister of Homeland Security, has announced that on Wednesday, the government plans to repatriate forty Rwandan volunteers who have expressed their willingness to return to their country.
