Chief resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has denied bail to former chairperson for Salima Sugar Company, Sherieesh Betgri.
The accused has since pleaded not guilty to charges of tax evasion and money laundering.
Betgri is accused obtaining a loan by deceit for the expansion of Salima Sugar Company Limited, between November 2017 and December 2020.
The court has since adjourned the matter to 3 July.
