Unidentified man who was pedaling a bicycle has died in a road accident after he collided with a truck in Mzuzu.
Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Mercy Chitonde, has said that the accident occurred at Luwinga along Mzuzu – Ekwendeni M1 Road during the night of 1 July last Saturday.
“The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number BR 9409/NS32 MAN articulated truck driven by Jimmy Chikondi Kaphagawani, 40, of Tawakali Village, in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Chikowi in Zomba who was driving from the direction of Mzuzu heading Luwinga.
“Upon arrival at Kaphagawani he collided sideways with an unknown male pedal cyclist who was heading the same direction and he consequently died following the impact,” said Chitonde.
The deceased sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on both legs and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzuzu Central.
According to Chitonde, the driver has since been arrested and will answer an offense of causing death by reckless driving contrary to Section 126(4)(C) of the Road Traffic Act.
